Hey steve, did a first time run on the entire Paonia to Hotchkiss stretch with a friend last Monday. I run a single Tomcat IK and Jason had 14 or 16 ft cat. Anyway the first 6miles of this run are really mellow some class II rifles until the surf waves. The entire section of big waves is only about one-half mile long but really beefy waves. Several river wide waves almost forming like small low head dams. Several huge holes to definitely miss and at the end of section a angle diversion structure, make sure to stay left thru drop. This would be a great play spot if shorter put-in was available. Just need to do a scout when you get in the area.
