Gunni Gorge

I saw that Gunni gorge is pumping about 1500 right now. That's more water than most anywhere in W. Colorado. I also know it is supposed to be really cold right now. Is thing likely iced up? And how would the road be? Any snow on the ground there? Just looking for a few more fun floats this year.

put on your boots and hike down from the rim of the black canyon

Gunni Gorge

The road that leads to the Chukar trail is good to go in summer with a high clearance 4-wheel drive vehicle (The shuttle is about 3 hours, half on the road to the Chukar trail even though it is only a few miles long). I have heard when it is wet it is nearly impassable. I would guess that snow would also make the road really tough. The road to the takeout is a well maintained and fairly flat dirt road so that wouldn't be a problem. If you call the Black Canyon National Park they might know the status of the road.

the road is outright dangerous when wet. if they've got snow on top of that then just stay home and don't waste your time.

the mud alone will stick to your tires to 1 inch thinkness and i've gone 20+ feet sideways on the flat, easy upper sections that looks like the Badlands in my Jeep. You're just going to wreck your vehicle in this shit snow on mud stuff.

1500 cfs and a complete waste of good water, imo.

Is there another way into GG that involves a longer hike?

There is......can't remember the name of the trail (Bobcat I think?)......not sure about the inroads to that baby and I think it's about twice as long (1.5-2 mile hike if I'm not mistaken).

........WERNER TRAIL would make a much better ski than a hike this time of the year.....very steep, wooded.....snow on peach valley wouldn't be as bad as sun and snow= melt=grease fest.....last year i went to pick up the rag-tag CKS crew on a wet day and i was sweatin' it pretty bad.....we had to wait for a couple of hours for it to dry.....was still very greasy!!!!....i'd go for ckukar trail.....JRRANGER420cb......
