green narrows status?

im thinking about goin to NC for a quick trip sometime in mid-March, but heard tell that the dam that controls the flow on the narrows might be on the fritz until april, which might change my plans. anyone know anything about it?

The 1 remaining generator broke a month ago. All the flows are spilling over the dam. This means that it's flows are now rain dependent, but probable that time of year. You're better off going to Cali. The flows are more garenteed, it's 6 hrs closer, and the whitewater is 100 time better. Every rapid on the green just lands on rock. Save your back and gear the abuse and go to the promised land: California.

The southeast has been going off like crazy w/ all the snow and rain this winter. It's been fantastic down there. Tons of first descents getting put up b/c there's enough water that things that normally don't run have water in them.

The green is fun, though it's mainly famous b/c (when the dam is working) it runs every weekend and then some, it's super close to Asheville, and easy to get to (no hiking). If you want to portage gorilla and sunshine it's easy to walk around. That being said, there are some way better runs in the southeast.

Where ever you go, enjoy your trip!

There is an endless number of stuff to explore down there. If thats where you're headin I can hook you up with a few people that could show you the green and whatever else they're doin. Also, if you go anyone of the first 3 weekends in april tallulah gorge will open to boaters.

EVERYTHING on te east coats is screwy...NONE of our guages works right! everything reads a good 2000cfs under the true flow.....I was up at the green 2 days ago and like every creek/river in the area its ckankin. As it stands now everything is gonna be killer for atleast another month.....and thats if the rain quits which doesnt look like its gonna happen. My home river the Nolichucky peaked at 20,000 about a month ago usually sitting about 2,000 and for the first time in years the oatmeal is back!!
