Gordon River Video

Hi everyone.

New to your forum here. I'm looking forward to perusing and seeing what's on here.

I'm very new to kayaking. Been a climber for ages, but the tendons are getting tired and kayaking seems much more my style these days.

I'm also into making films. I work in the film industry and decided to do a little kayak pet project. So I made a (quite) short video of the Gordon River here on Vancouver Island. Hope you enjoy!

Not sure youtube is the way to post vids here but here you go.

Very cool video. I'm just getting into filming and am curious how you got those aerial shots and what gear you are using?

Thanks Kmarsh. For this I used a combination of a quad with a GoPro3 and an octocopter with a Canon 5Diii.

oh and the third part of the combination was extreme bushwacking. The mountains are steep in these parts

That segment from the copter from about 1:10 to 1:22 really nice. Not very often that you get that camera perspective of a group of boaters in succession on a read and run. Reminds me of the simple joys of paddling with friends. Do those copters transmit live footage to a wireless device or are you flying blind with respect to a camera shot?

Thanks -k-! Yeah, that's my favourite clip, especially when Corey finishes his run with a little fist pump. Looked like fun from the air, and he was obviously psyched!

Yes, my cameras feed a signal to a radio video transmitter. (I don't technically use the wifi band because of interference issues) Then I can watch on either a big LCD, or with goggles with small LCD's. Both have pros and cons, but the goggles make it seem like I'm actually flying. I've buzzed through treetops using the goggles and it's unreal!!

I'm a big fan of shots that slowly reveal the rapid as the paddler is approaching the lip. It makes the shot more exciting from my perspective. Nice work.
