Gifts

Books and DVD's are good. Drybags are always good. But, if you don't know what they want for sure. Just find out where they live or shop and buy them a Gift Card. You send the exact amount you're comfortable spending and they can use if for whatever they want. It's the gift that keeps on giving. That way you don't risk getting them either something they already have or didn't realy want. You can never really go wrong with a Gift Card.

Awww....How nice of you. But you really don't need to get me anything. But if you insist, a paddling trip to Ecuador would be a good start.

P.S. Don's right on.

Gift cards are a sure bet to make sure you don't repeat an item they have.

But if your in the mode to take a chance here are some other ideas:

Kayaking street clothing
IE t-shirts, hats, sweatshirt - all can be purchased from selected manufacturers websites or any local paddling shop.

Base Layers
For me I can't get enough different types of base layer options, long sleeve, short sleeve, pants, shorts, socks, etc. I love to have options for whatever the temp may be. NRS has a good description and selection of base layers.

If all else fails, I can never have enough Nalgene water bottles. They come in all shapes, sizes, and colors.

Also, instead of a nalgene, think of something like one of those platypus bladders that mount on your PFD. those are pretty sweet too.
I personally prefer nalgene/water bottle myself

a top sirloin (the redder the better), a pint of whiskey, and a box of condoms not neccessarily in that order.

Buy him some new booties so when he comes over after paddling he doesn't smell like sweaty pond scum...That a way you both win

NRS booties are good to go...Find out if he creeks or just plays...that will depend on the kind of booties to get .
