Gauley River

Hey Guys,

First time poster and relatively new rafter. I rafted the New River once a couple years ago and am going with a group at the end of September to do the Gauley Marathon. We booked it through ACE (not sure if that is good or bad, heard mixed reviews). Safe to say I am really excited about this and was wondering what tips or pieces of advice you can give me. There is a group of 6 of us going. 2 have rafting experience, 2 have minor rafting experiece (me included) and 2 have no rafting experience. Thanks guys!

Bryan

Tip your guide 10-15% if they do a good job, more if they are awesome.

Tipping I can definetly do. Any other words of advice? I've been trying to find good websites to read up on the Gauley and what exactly I have in store for me but I don't seem to be having any luck finding any.

check out youtube. Bring lots of beer and be ready to party. Also, check you guides sobriety before putting on, If he/she isnt at least half wasted you may want to have them shotgun some beers first.

I did that trip last September and loved it. It was not bad at all. I had three guys from Poland who wanted to paddle the whole way down and at one point we did 200 strokes. We were over an hour late to the river because of a jumper on the New River Bridge and off the river an hour early. My arms were jello. Overall though, the trip was awesome. Buy one video and split it. Go to Riverman and do their Zip-Line Tour and ATV Tour. They are awesome!!!
