Floating Grand hiking out at Phantom need info

Hello all,
I will be floating the Grand this year, but can only do one week of the three. I am gonna hike out at Phantom Ranch. Has anyone done this? Is it better to hike out on the North or South Rim? Can you hike out of the North Rim in March? Where can I leave my car? How long does it take to hike out? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The North rim will not be open in March. Search the Buzz and you will find lots of info on hiking out at Phantom.

The rangers at GCNP can also answer your questions.
Only hiked out once, Bright Angel. You end up at the parking lot where a car can be parked. Other trails require a bus ride or hitch.
If another party is hiking IN, perhaps you can swap cars. Otherwise you need a shuttle to get your car to the south rim. (Time and or money required.)
Hike out time depends on you and how much you plan to carry. Start before noon and you will be in Flagstaff be evening.

i did the same thing last year. watch for ice on the trail as you ascend. it turns into AZ only luge course. i was shocked with the amount of ice (even though i knew better). i suggest cheep yak-tracks or something similar.
