ESCALANTE UPDATE 5-15-16

We ran Escalante today (and several folks ran it yesterday.) It is a perfect solid Medium Level. All the drops are clean and good to go. There is one new obstacle: A huge tree (I swear it's the biggest tree in the whole valley) fell all the way across the river.) It's easy to spot - be looking for it as you enter the gorge filled with the Big Pinon Pines - about half a mile before Double Drop - just after a sharp right turn. There is a good eddy and an easy portage on river left.

There is also a big tree in the lower gorge between the Falls and Magnetic Wall - but for now it is parallel with the flow and left of the line most people run through there. This log looks like it might be on the move so take a look from above to spot it. Hopefully it won't go down and block Magnetic Wall.

It was raining off-and-on today - and it is supposed to rain for the next 4 days straight. With all the new moisture, warm temps, and the good snow pack up high, I think it will come up more and run for at least a few more weeks.

Big thanks to Tim, Connor and Daniel for letting me join their crew for a great day of paddling.

Be careful out there.
Tom

Also: The center boof at Water Slide is in.

Rib Wrecker is filled in and boofs real clean.

The right sneak at Corkscrew is fat and clean.

If anybody is paddling Escalante and wants some good karma, my lady's paddle is on the bank at double drop. We are hoping not to have to drive back out there to get it. Anywhere else is better than there. Beer for the do-gooders out there. Thanks. The phone number is on the paddle.

I am guessing you are talking about the Escalante in Utah. These guys are talking about a creek in Colorado, Grand Junction area.
