Escalante Update 4-20-10

Ran Escalante today. Perfect solid medium level (both sides of 57 runnable). Everything is good to go. No bad wood (but it will be on the move as the water comes up.) Watch out for Water Slide. Saw a vertical pin and gnarly swim there today.

Take care.

My best run in Skull was right down the gut while riding an inflatable alligator.

If the forecast is correct and based on my experience, my guess is it will shut it down to bone zone levels. Bummer. Looks like early this week was the time to get it. Eye witness reports would certainly be useful though.

The good news is it ought to be running for a while this year. I remember 2 years ago when it had a great season we went after the first couple week bonanza, it was still running med-high to high and almost nobody was there. On Sunday there were 3 in my group and one other person on the river the entire day. I'm just suggesting that people might want to check their psychology. Flocks of people will show up for early season bony ass low water runs all across this state and then in late June when things are cranking, numbers seem to dwindle... I mean maybe it's just that lots of things are running so boaters are very dispersed, but I was really confused a couple years ago when I went to run the Numbers at near 3k, the level everybody says is amazing, on a weekend, and didn't see anybody out there. I don't understand Colorado boaters. Sorry for the digression.

Haha, to paraphrase KSC, you best check yo'self before your wreck yo'self (on bony ass creeks).

Maybe most CO boaters love the mank so much they are just skeert when it comes time to drop in with juice. But when the #'s is at 3 grand, every creek in the state is going off, and some of us only shred the gnar, exclusively...

What about a Sunday run. Weather looks good Saturday... would one day be enough to bring it back to life?
