DRE Pro Series 14'er

Hi all, we're thinking of a new boat this year and I was wondering if any of you could share any insights on a DRE Pro Series 14'er. There doesn't seem to be much info posted out there so any info would be helpful. Thanks, and have a great weekend

I rowed three DRE Pro's and an NRS Expedition and an NRS Otter (on a rotating basis) while guiding all last season. In my opinion the DRE boats don't hold a candle to the quality you'll find in a NRS Expedition and the MSRP is about a hundred dollars difference.

I would buy another NRS Otter before I'd buy a DRE Pro. I feel their quality is very comparable and the Otter is a thousand bucks cheaper than the Pro.

If you're going to spend what it costs to own a DRE Pro save up another hundred bucks and buy an NRS Expedition, you'll be much happier.

we are coming from a maravia willy 1 so that does not sound so good... maybe we'll stick with the old boat. Thanks for your time.

Owch!

That was only one opinion.

There are many folk who love DREs. Pro's are basically the same boat as a hyside.

I believe that the DRE are made in the Hyside factory. A buddy of mine got one last year and really liked it, but it showing a lot of wear from one year on the river. I have recently got a willy 1. What was your impression of that boat?

absolutley bomber. Ours is 15 years old and the floor is leaking but otherwise its great. The perfomance on the water is solid.

they seem to have much bigger tubes and overall bigger than the hyside 14'. And I don't dare say anything negative about a Hyside I mean, these are all great boats, and to be honest if a maravia wasn't over 5g i would get another in a heartbeat.

I disagree. I'd put the Hyside above the DRE as well. The three DREs we bought last year were to replace a pair of Achilles and a Hyside that were all about ten years old. The Achilles and the Hyside all provided reliable, leak free, low maintenance service for about ten years, it was only in the past year that they started to develop leaks and begin becoming a pain in the rear. The three DREs we replaced them with already ALL have problems, one of them developed a leak on the first trip and the other two followed shortly thereafter. The "painted on" wear patches are a non-functioning, cosmetic joke. Put some real wear patch armor on the boats rather than just painting on a look-alike. Aside from the non existent wear patches the tube AND floor fabric are of a lower weight and denier and are not as strong both on paper and in the real world. The DREs have their place but it is not among the top echelon of WW inflatables. If DRE lowered the price on the Pro by about a thousand bucks then they would be giving people a fair deal. I never said DRE's were a bad boat but currently they are grossly overpriced for the quality that they represent. Like I said before, it's only my opinion and you won't have to look far to find someone to disagree but I do have experience with all of the aforementioned boats and I wouldn't put DRE even close to the top of the list.

Since we're now talking other brands. In case you are interested, the Sotar boat is 5G, but a 20% discount can be had through the outfitter in Missoula, and also the shop just outside Boise (payette river, not 100% sure about his discount level).
