Dirty Devil, the self-shuttle way.

Check it here:

Big Wheel Building: Filthy.

We did this trip almost exactly one year ago. I wasn't a member of the Buzz then, hence this posting now.

Flows are pretty much identical this week to what they were when we ran it. Bet it'll last at least a few more weeks still, but maybe not much more than that.

Cheers,

MC

That looks sweet I've passed the Dirty Devil a bunch of times when it's been dried up taking off Cat.

How long did it take you? Where did you put in?

Looks like a good time.

Thats awesome. what a great loop. I hiked and canyoneered @ 100+ miles in 27 days down and around the Dirty with NOLS back in 2002 or something... I would have Loved a packraft. what a great means of transport... walking across the river was treacherous. that quickmud is no joke esp. with a big pack on...! we had a couple people get stuck up to their thighs. I have some incredible memories of that area. the environment is so Hostile away from the water. We were getting rainwater from potholes so shallow you had to use a nalgene lid to scoop the puddle up... and before that..getting water from the DD we had to let it set in cooking pots over night to settle the silt...
Beautiful photos too!

Cool trip. I've run a lot of bike shuttles, but never actually brought the bike with me on the river.

I might have to blow my tax return on the Packraft.

Beautiful! While I can't embark on this type of adventure now, I have promised myself I will. Thanks for inspiring me and fueling the desire!

Beautiful work on a true piece of Gods country. Gotta do that one. Other than weight what is the difference between a opack raft and a old single IK?

I've got a decent amount of experience with packrafts but very little in IK's.

Weight is too big not to mention--a well-outiftted packraft comes in well under 10# and fits easily into a pack, or on a bike. No IK I've ever seen comes close to that.

That aside they seem to differ equally in intent as well as performance. I have yet to paddle a packraft that feels anything but sporty (not with a bike attached, clearly) but every IK I've been in feels big, heavy, cumbersome, slow to react.
