Deso in early April

Pulled an early permit for Deso this year and had the best trip ever, the river ran at 2800 CFS and we had some cold nights but well worth the weather. Oddly enough we saw a number of dead cows but only one person in five days and had the river to ourselves. Imagine camping at Wire Fence 1, looking east up the canyon, with the sun setting behind you enjoying a beverage and not a soul in sight. Back home now with pictures and memories but Deso in late March or early April is well worth the effort and extra gear.

glad to hear you had such a great trip.

it's so nice to have a river to yourself once in a while and worth the effort as you say.
such a rare thing these days.

Thanks for the report. We are heading for Deso in three days. Looks like the water level finally went above 3000 cfs in the last two days. What were the rapids like at this low flow? Anything to watch out for? We have 8 people & 5 rafts.....18 ft., 15 ft., 14 ft. X 2, and 12 ft. We're hoping for decent weather. We've done mid April before, and it was great, but always had higher water than this year. Solitude on the river is always nice.

Just got back last Thursday. Mostly good weather, some rain mixed in, even saw a few snowflakes. Rapids are not terribly boney and pretty easy all around. Did manage to get stuck once or twice. Highlight was Wire Fence, it was a great rolling wave train at ~2800, more fun than at the ~5000 I've seen it at before. Second the dead cows, there were a bunch. Have a great trip!
