cross mtn elfable?

Continuing the trend of low water posts-

has anyone ran cross mtn at current flows? i.e. 230 at maybell or 280ish at deerlodge?

thanks
colin

good question. I would bet you could paddle most of cross at 230. You would definitely want to put in at the putin closer to the canyon, avoiding the flatwater.

I've heard of people boating down to 200.... I would be interested to hear accounts/see pictures, and to possibly go boat it.

I've run it at 350ish and it was still fun. Probably good to go, but the paddle in will be kind of lousy. I wouldn't go any lower than it is already. Not really worth a big drive, but it's nice if you're in the area.

cross mtn is incredible! super fun as a low water run and crazy beautiful... as a class III paddler I was thoroughly entertained and nicely challenged. Didn't get much for photos in the rapids as we were too busy route finding around boulders and such, but i did get one of the bottom of what I assume was osterizer... spent the whole trip pondering how crazy that canyon must be at 13k!

Good to know. You have broken through a new barrier, progressing the sport. All those who come after you owe you a beer.

Thanks for sharing the photos! Sounds like a great trip! We use to drive from the Fort all the way out there on weekends in the fall and spring when nothing else was running. It's amazing how good everything remains even at the lowest flows. I found that it's the same difficulty range until you reach about 1500 cfs, and then it takes on class IV character throughout and I've heard, V at 3K (not my cup of tea at that level). That might be a good training run for you for the bigger stuff. Due to the ledgey character of the rocks and high volume, some of the holes get sticky at even medium flows.
