Cross MT in an Oar Rig?

I have never been and am thinking about next weekend. Anyone have an idea at what levels a 14'er will make it through?

cross

Im at Cross right now and there is more than enough water for a raft. Pretty much high water for commercial rafts...sure its been done alot higher. Pretty tame down to 1000 cfs ,but would still be fine for a 14er. Good luck and have fun.

Been running it with a cat since around 1995- so the short answer is yes. I had a friend run it with a 14' high side round nose at around 1100. I don't recommend running a raft at 600' or below. In one slot you could get jammed and prevent a kayaker from taking that line- or worse. My own personal cutoff is around 3000-3200. I'm thinking of running it over the 4th. It will be done (for rafts) in the next few weeks.

I ran it at 550 in a 16' Avon, it was tight but doable.

Seems like it has a short season in April and again late June/early July.
Would like to catch it while its good. Long drive and a short run, I imagine
best to run laps and camp close.

cross at 550

yeah- I get it that it's doable at that level- but the river left slot below mammoth is very narrow and I've actually witnessed a boat get jammed there with a kayak coming in- creating a situation where if the kayak could have been pinned under the boat until it was freed- I just think a rafter has a responsibility to keep this from happening if at all possible- at these levels you see a lot of class 3 kayakers in there and they have even less of a chance of avoiding you in a larger boat- I also don't find it enjoyable at those levels- rather wait until it goes a little lower and ducky the thing- and really provide some entertainment for the locals- this late in the year the waters warm
