Couple highlights from Kelly Whitewater Park Comp

This last weekend Kelly Whitewater Park held the Payette river games with something like $40k in prize $$.
The weather was a cool and the water warm. NF Payette running a little under 2k.
Boater Cross

They launch 4 boats at a time, they have to corner around a couple buoys, one in a tight eddy, then drop sideways into a pretty meaty hole.
I would avoid this hole if I came up on it in a river, but I'm over 55 and a little past my kayaking prime.

boater drops in---apparently the rules are you have to drop into the meat then try to climb out on river left into the green water.

one boater--not so bad

add another boat (top boater in piranha trying to climb out)

and add another
Top two boater have pretty good form downstream bracing on the foam pile.
Bottom boater with upstream brace---you know how that turn out---but he kept his head straight

Junior Girl ripping it up---I think she was 12 or 13 years old

junior boy looping

Another loop---nothing spectacular----except he doing it with a big honken creek boat!!

EJ and family were there, I gave him a couple pointers, you know, keep your head back when you roll and watch you down stream brace----stuff like that. He was appreciative.------Ej, his son and his daughter (who was 9 months prego) dominated the event.

more carnage

You do realize that you have 5 pictures of 'his son', right? Including the 'upstream brace' or as he'd call it, an 'entry move.'

Darby McAdams from Missoula, MT. REALLY a nice, down-to-earth kid.

That top "meaty" hole is the best surfing wave at Kelly's!

Yeah, that's funny. Not many people on the planet are qualified to critique his form... Surprised that there were any boaters ahead of him. Also, Stephen Wright threw down a couple 2000+ rides this weekend to win. Dane topped 2000 in finals and came in 2nd! Jason Craig continues his inspired and inspiring return to health and the podium with a 3rd place.

Stephen's 2,160 pt ride. So crisp.
