Costa Rica Kayaking Trip

I'm looking for some information about river centers/instructional camps in Costa Rica for this spring. I am planning on taking my first vacation in over 7 years that is not to a friends wedding and I want to kayak!!!

The reason why I want to go to a river center/instructional camp is because I plan on going by myself, and I just want to get my sea legs and confidence back in a friendly, warm environment before coming home and hitting up the Eagle (for what I hope is going to be a great season, with all this snow we have been getting). I usually end the season on a great note, but I always have a slow start because of the cold water on the Eagle and the mental games of getting back in the boat.

Ideally, I would like to go the last week in April/first week of May, and I would like to be on a river that is Class III-IV with some good play spots. I would like a place that I don't have to lug my boat to, but could still get in a similar boat. I'm thinking that I want to be kayaking about 3-4 days and then heading to the beach to relax, read, drink and surf for another 3-4 days.

Any suggestions??

Also, I have no desire to just go kayak on a river by myself or head down there and hope to find someone at the put ins, so thank you if those are your suggestions, but I don't need those. The mental game for me a is big factor in my kayaking, and I need to be on the river with encouraging people until I gain my confidence for the season.

You're going to want to go to the town of Turrialba. It's the center of Costa Rican kayaking. There are all sorts of kayak schools there and a few good, cheap hostels. I think I used Costa Rica Rios, and they were pretty good, with a huge selection of boats to choose from. Search the threads here, as there have been a lot of similar questions and opinions on schools to use.

search the threads...

Hotel Interamericano is a great place to stay in Turriabla...

to the site admins... enhancement idea: Could you guys tag posts for these kinds of questions and drop them in the trip planner section or a new section. It would be awesome if all the posts on Costa Rica, the Zambezi, Mexico, etc. were organized in one place that users could browse when planning a trip.
