Canoe Browns July 28?

Hello,

I want to canoe Browns canyon on the Ark July 28th. What think? Will there be enough water? Also, anyone want to join?

Thanks

Mike

Thanks for the offer Mike. Read up on other forums here and you'll get the general idea/pace of the season thus far and what to expect. It's anyones best guess what July 28 will look like, but you'll likely be able to still get down.

Last I heard the AHRA is trying to hold the water level through Labor Day. So I'd expect the same 350 to 400 range. Plenty of water! I run it everyday.

Alan, think I can man handle a gear laden 14ft bucket boat through there?

It won't be pretty, but it should go. My advice would be to use the smallest boat you can. Some of the slots get pretty tight!

One year me and a bud were kayaking Browns in super low levels in September. Beautiful autumn day in the canyon and we thought we had Browns all to ourselves that day.

came to one slot, might have been some where around Toilet Bowl and a commercial 14 foot paddle raft came along behind us as we were really going slow.

The slot was tight for a kayak and we looked at each other and grinned wondering how the guide would get by.

Just above the slot he had all the custies set on one tube, used his guide stick to control the raft thru the slot, sat the raft back upright, looked at us with a big grin on his face as we saluted him big time.

You should not have major problems, just be ready to take it easy and have fun.

Last Sept I did it in a 17 foot canoe but I don't know what water level. I hope to do it Aug 28 in a 15 and a 17 with airbags. When the water is higher I always go between Salida and Parkdale.

But the water is no where near high! I need to start work on re-outfitting my old Ocoee whitewater canoe. This is the perfect year to get comfortable in an open boat again on Browns. The year of the canoe!
