Camping & Paddling with Pets

As the title states... does anyone have much practice with this or do you all leave your pets at home....
My lab comes out on most multi day raft float trips, but I need to find a way to keep him safe while out in the kayak. Does anyone have any experience having dogs at camp, leaving them when paddling, what works and what doesn't? Tents, campers, canvas tarp housing, etc...
Cheers

I drive a vw bus or a vanagon and just keep the dogs in there on day runs. They are always in there any way so they love it. This enables me to check out an area for a few days and boat especially when with mutts. I also have a great lady that runs shuttle and stays with the dogs if its above her head.

My guinea pigs are not fond of rafting. They are great swimmers, but wear out quickly. We leave them at home along with the dogs, fish, and birds. I used to love rafting with the dogs, but when we ended up on the other side of the river from my chocolate lab after a flip we gave it up. Not a dog friendly sport and I hate them shaking on me after a swim. Too many rivers don't allow them anymore for multi days. The Smith here in wild MT even outlawed them. We hire a great dog sitter and everyone's happy.

If my dog isn't welcome, neither am I.
