Big Sur at super high water

What is Big Sur like at these water levels? Does it wash out? At what cfs does it wash out? Is it worth doing at 28,300 or above?

I think the highest we ever saw it was around 24 or 25k in 1996. Boats were longer and faster then and planing hulls were just barely starting. (97) It was worth every soar muscle and smile from ear to ear.

Was there today and the gauge said 29,000. Not washed out at all, super fun. Big, slow, glassy carving wave on river left to center. Center to right is a great big foamy bouncy bastard. The 2nd wave is nice and foamy all the way left to right. I suck at surfing big time and thought it was great - go check it out!

She's all good at these levels. Slower than The Glenwood wave, but fun as heck and the natural landscape is beautiful. You're out there for 5-10 minutes on the wave and then you look around at the surroundings and think, "life is good."

Good flows still coming down of the plateau if you're so inclined as well. Be sure to eddy out before the intersection with the Colorado as there's no room to float under the hwy at these levels.

Brook, I'm surprised you can even recall 96 & 97. I thought old-timers disease affected the memory?

Was there last night with no more than 5 other boaters at a time. Enough wave for all of us to be on at one time, but we usually spaced it out more since it's nice to rest between super long runs. One guy on a surfboard tried a couple times, but never caught the wave. Short boats (WS ProjectX) were doing fine and having a good time too.

See you Friday 6/10/11

We are comming up to surf tomorrow and this set of posts jacked me up. I am so pumped. Started kayaking in 96 in Glenweed and then moved to Alaska and have not been near enopugh to hit Big Sur when it was happening till now. Been dreaming about it for a long time. Hope to see some of you there, I will be in a Red Fluid Element, Blue Car with NM plates.
