Just spoke to a friend that drove by a couple hours ago. He said the first wave is not in and the second wave is starting to form. He thought it was possible to surf with longer boat.

longer boats. I wonder if that's going to be the story at Big Sur. Back in the day, she was cordial to all kinds of boats, so long as they had displacement hulls and at least eight feet of length.
Wonder how today's stubby flat-bottomed spinners are gonna fit on her.

long boats

I'm bringing my Jackson Fun but also have access to an old Riot Slice! I think that thing is 8'2" long or something like that. It should have plenty of speed for Big Sur. I just hope it lasts through Friday.

Big Sur just beginning

I was on the second and third waves in my Wave Sport X, stretching about 1/2 the river from about 10:30-1pm even though the gates were still closed. The Cameo gauge said 20,100 at 8am. There is a wave train but it was changing throughout this time. As of 1pm the gates are still closed and there the second wave is breaking enough for some surf, but hard to do more than flat spins. Needs more and those gates have to open for the real deal. The shorter boats were having more trouble catching it, although one dude caught it in his Jackson Star.
