First off, huge props to Austin Woody, Kyle McCutchen, and Evan Stafford for completing a top to bottom descent of the Poudre River this weekend. In just under 30 hours they paddled from Poudre Lake (Rocky Mountain National Park) to Picnic Rock, for a total of nearly 65 miles and 5,500 vertical feet. Strong work fellas, that's huge!!!
Our group paddled Joe Wright, Spencer Heights, and Lower Big South (from Prime Time down) this weekend. Couple things work noting. First off, Carnito Canyon has changed
. The old flake boof is gone, and at this weekend's level the rapid is generally more challenging. Recommend scouting this one before dropping in. As always, beware of wood. As of Saturday afternoon there was a clear channel the entire way down the creek.
Big South: watch for wood around the second corner after Double Trouble
- we snuck it far right without any issues. Stay left after pin cushion to avoid the barely submerged log
. The gate is closed as of this writing. For road status updates, check this page
Levels throughout the weekend were Medium-high on Joe Wright, High on Big South, and Medium-high on Spencer Heights.
