Big South Flow Update

Yo Buzzards,

I spoke with the water supply co today. They turned down long draw yesterday since recent precip was keeping the farmers in good shape. They don't have a lot of water to deliver this year, so they turned long draw down to hold the water and save it for later.

They told me the plan is to turn long draw back up to about 150 cfs friday around noon, and hold releases for the next 10 days or so while they deliver water. Take the 150 with a grain of salt as actual flows could vary.

So it looks like the big south will have a little more water this weekend. If you are going up friday, plan for a noon turn on for the water if you paddle wierd creek, or perhaps a couple hours later if you hike in corral creek to avoid the mank.

Hope everyone has a great weekend up there. I'll be out of the country vacationing with the family, so sadly I will miss the big south bash.

Did they ever open the gate?

Thanks for the update. I think some people got on yesterday before they dropped the flow, so I guess the gate is open.

out there yesterday. I haven't been in Colorado for the past two summers but what I did notice is that rock lobster has two fairly new down trees in it and that's pretty much makin the rapid unrunnable in my eyes.

Rock Lobster is ALWAYS runnable cause if you run it normally than you might as well run it any other way.

I don't know about that but I guess I would just recommend scouting to everyone on that one. The wood is taking up everything but the right side.

What? You can't run Rock Lobster? Fuck it, it's not worth doing the Big South.

Is anyone still running Weird Creek? I thought everyone just hiked in these days, especially at these levels

I'd forgotten how much fun the Big South is. It was so nice to finally get on there and run it from the top again. We had a great day yesterday. Even though the Rock report said 2 marks, my optimistic reading was 2.25. Get it while it lasts and the gate is open!
