Beginner Kayaking Near Golden?

Hey my girlfriend and I are new to kayaking and are looking for easier stuff near Golden. We have both rafted for over 5 years and can read water which I'm sure helps. Would appreciate any feedback!

You can run the Idaho springs town run to Kermits on clear creek is fairly mellow. The play park in town is a good place to hone your skills. Deckers on the south fork of south platte, and filter plant on the poudre. Section below shelly's on the st vrain down to the play park, C470 to union chutes with a good flow is fun urban boating for a beginner. Probably spacing a few as well....

If you don't want to fool with the Golden playpark, once the water gets to about 400-600 on the Golden gage the Wheat Ridge Daily is an surprisingly pleasant stretch that's boatable between I-70 and Ward Road and Tennyson, though getting out at Sheridan avoids a stretch below the treatment plant outfall :P .

Enjoy!

Local stuff

Golden play park is great if you can roll one out of 4 times until you learn to not have to roll. Deckers is fun chutes may be bit much for first time out. PM me if you want my girlfriend just got her roll and then didn't get in the boat for a year so we'll likely hit up the gates on the Platte in town this week to get her back in the boat you're more than welcome to join.

Thanks for the insight! going up to BV for part of the weekend and hope to run JV to ruby, I have done that stretch a couple times but I was in a buddies boat that was huge. This will be the first time out in over a year but I'm optimistic that having a boat where my hips touch will help.

^^^^ but below tunnel 1 through the play park is.

Also, I've seen and taken many first timers and first year kayakers on the chutes (s. fork s. platte). Most do swim chute 2, but there's a huge recovery eddy that's good for practicing self-rescue skills.
