Bear creek

Anyone else notice that bear creek did not run this year? Why is that? Will it run this season?

Yeah.... I was told they are filling up the new "small" reservoir upstream. So until that thing is filled up, screw us paddlers.

I'm praying that it is just an anomaly. Notice that Clear Creek had a strange season too. We had those few days when it got meaty a while back then nothing... until now it is finally charging up the scale. We had a lot of cool nights this spring and only one big rain storm.

My guess is that the lack of saturating rain events had a lot to do with it. The one day that we actually had a soaking all day long rain storm Bear Creek shot up to 140 cfs. Only a few people got it.

That new dam is the damn problem. I think running Bear Creek after work may just be a thing of the past.

It's above Idledale (the traditional put-in) and is on river left (north side of road)

Hydrologist and local Colorado boating hero Dan O posted on some thread earlier that the res is quite small and should have minimal effect on the flows. I don't think Bear runs every year anyway, does it? 2 years ago it only ran after a rain event. I'm thinking in normal years it needs a decent snowpack combined with some early season warmth, but then I haven't been paying attention to it for more than the last couple years.

I was in downtown Evergreen again last night and the water just isn't coming down so the lack of water is not because of the new dam at Idledale. Looks like it's a bust for this season.
