It's at 1800 today. It looks boney to me now. Maybe in a kayak. I think the lower teens, 13k to 15 looks the best for rafts at least. Good luck

I would be very surprised if Barrel is running. There is a dam above Upper Death where they take the majority of the water out of the channel for the Shoshone Power Plant. The water isn't returned to the channel until below Barrel. There is a chance they are working on the facilities, or for some other reason the water isn't being diverted, but you will want to get a visual from someone before driving to G-Wood.

Driving by on Monday barrel is definitely a GO. Plenty of water but not too much to step up. Looked class IV-ish at this level.

definitely plenty of water still in there. There is a bike path right next to the whole run walk/bike down the path and scout all the rapids - it will all make sense when you look at it.

suigeneris, do you have any other suggestions what would be a good step up that is still running this season? i've been paddling quite a bit of class 4ish this season so maybe some thing in the more technical or contentious 4ish range?

Barrel is still fun. I imagine we will be up there this week and weekend. If you want to tag along we could show you around.

Unfortunately the bike path in that section was extensively damaged in the big run off this spring. Repairs are currently under way. I don't think it is open to the public so putting in below Upper Death may not be possible. I may be mistaken though.
