At four falls today I saw a new Forest Service sign nailed to a tree about 20 yards up stream from first fall. It was put up on 7/10/13. Anyone know what this is? I know there was talk about whether or not four falls is actually located on private property or not. Does this mark the edge of Forest Service land? Does this mean kayakers can pee there and mark it as ours?
We can all read the sign when we are in there, but for the record I bet it says something like, "keep your junk in your pants and don't pee here, whether it's public or private..." Or like chrispy so eloquently stated...
pee in your boat....
"You know that old trees just grow stronger and old rivers grow wilder, everyday..."
Ok, the peeing thing was just a joke given all the previous Buzz discussions devoted to peeing at Four Falls. My question was is Four Falls private or not given the new Forest Service sign? It's just says it's a "marker" or something like that. It doesn't say anything like Forest Service boundary or anything informative. I'm more interested in what this means for scouting, portaging and just hanging out than the ramifications for peeing. Sorry for the bad joke.
For clarification, this isn't the sign at Four Falls. This is just an example of what the one at Four Falls looks like. The above photo is just a random photo I found on the interwebz. The "Location Poster" at Four Falls has a date of 7/10/13.
I saw it too, there are actually two of them. One is where you get out and a second is next to first fall. The one next to first fall had directions to the section corner which was upstream and about 20 feet off the road. There is a wooden stake with pink flagging around it. I can't say if that means four falls is on Forest Service land but it could be implied. I'm sure when Ian gets back he will clarify, I'm pretty sure he was involved.
