Lots of highway traffic. Anywhere along 24/285/291/50 you can hitch hike pretty easy. You can hitch on 371 (dirt road along Railroad Bridge) on the weekend easy. Not much traffic during the week on the river or 371 yet. Dvorak's runs a commercial shuttle. Haven't heard of an Uber shuttle yet..... but it's a pretty good idea.

I could see a delay for a gorge shuttle, but I have literally never waited more than 20 minutes for a ride on the Upper Ark and have met some great folks and shared a few beers along the way.

ask for a ride at the take out. I've done this as well as provide rides for others. It's a common practice in a pinch (not as a habit) and there is an extremely high chance you'll get a ride to somewhere.

Sweet Jesus...

Ballpark numbers...
200+ miles each way from Loveland,CO to Salida,Co with shuttle miles added in there. 400+ miles of round trip driving for that second vehicle.

Most outdoorsy folks actually worth a shit have a 4wd truck so a generous 20mpg is about 20 gallons of gas used.

At. $2.65 a gal. x 20 gal.= $53 in gas alone for that second vehicle.

Factor in wear and tear on the vehicle, second driver's time, a couple hours time wasted running a shuttle for the group...which is really cheaper?

Now from the business you're bitching about $60? Two employees, two hours of labor, a company's vehicle and gas to run the shuttle. Maybe making 30 bucks on it.

Man, they are really sticking it to you there.

If you can walk to the road from the planned put in and take out, hold your right hand out flat and arrange your thumb so it's perpendicular to your fingers. Then curl your fingers in toward the palm of your hand. Display this to drivers approaching on the road headed in the direction you need to travel, pointing your thumb in an upward direction. Carry a PFD with you. That's the best way to shuttle in the Ark Valley.
