Ark flows

Apologies if this is covered in another thread, but does anyone know when supplemental flows to Ark will stop (or be significantly diminished)? I have some family coming and was planning to head up on Aug 16 to take them through Browns. Flows are still pretty good right now considering snow we had.

I think Aug 15 is the end of the flow program. Don't know if they will just shut it down to native, or taper off over some days...

Aug 15

Hi all,
Yes, Aug. 15 is the correct date for when the Flow Program ends. I am not sure how it will taper off, either, to be honest. I'll know more as we get farther along into the month.

We actually cut back releases from Twin Lakes Dam to Lake Creek and the Arkansas today by about 95 cfs.

We are currently releasing about 265 cfs to Lake Creek.

Best,
Kara

IS the 15th included in having supplemental flows, or is it the first day WITHOUT them?

There should still be water on the morning of the 15th. I believe they start to drop the augmented flow in stages during the day.... sometimes they will take it through the closest weekend. I heard a rumor that there might be enough water left after these rain events to possibly augment something through Labor Day, but that was not from a reliable source. I haven't heard an update from the AHRA.

VFMP ramp down

Hi all,
Apparently, there's some discussion going on regarding how they'll ramp it down. Sometimes, the ramp down starts the morning of the 15th, sometimes in the afternoon. As I understand it, ramping down usually occurs over a couple of days, but it starts on the 15th.

On rare occassions, like last year, we all were able to extend the season because there was enough Flow Program water to keep going into September. This year, extension of the program is not possible as there were only 14,000 acre-feet total available and that's almost all used now (although not quite).

As soon as there's an official decision on how to ramp down, I'll post it and I'm sure others will, too.

More soon!

some more, but not the full story yet

Oh, wait! Just got this note:

Quote:
The flows to Wellsville are coming down slowly on the last full day of the VFMP release. We'll increase the project release from Twin by 15 cfs from 335 to 350 at 1000 hours. Tomorrow, we'll begin the gradual ramp down of project flows.
And don't forget to check the WaterFlow Announcement page, too. More information to come!

rest of the story

All,
Ramp down of the Voluntary Flow Program will begin tomorrow, Aug. 15, at 8 a.m.

As a result, VFMP water will be 10% on August 15 and afterwards 15% per day until we are at a native release.

Best,
Kara
