Huge accomplishment, nice job....bet it was amazing.

Hi Mudko, Excellent work! Congrats on your run!

Here is a little beta for you: The first solo boater through Grand Canyon that we have a record of could have been James White in 1867. Trouble is, we only know where he took out, and no one is certain where he put in... Next up, and without a doubt for certain is solo boater Haldane "Buzz" Holmtrom's run in 1937. The first kayaker to run all the rapids in the Grand Canyon in a fiberglass boat was Walter Kirschbaum in 1960. Kirschbaum had his own permit, but was accompanied by two other motorboats. Less "Bucket head" Jones solo'd the Grand Canyon in a canoe in 1954.

Your question "Who was the first solo kayaker?" is a good one. I dunnooo
And then, "Who is the youngest solo kayaker? I dunnooo either...

Big Water Little Boats recounts, among other things, the youngest woman to run the highest water in Grand Canyon. That was 15 year old Pracilla "Priss" Ratican on 126,000 cfs in 1957.

Natalie Mortenson will be 12 when she attempts to kayak the Grand next spring. I'll keep you posted on how all that works out...

Again, congrats on your run, yours, tom

I believe he was asking who was the youngest self support kayaker. It's unclear whether he was solo or with other boaters. (But cool history lesson Tom; thanks.)

Mudco, can you elaborate a bit? And congrats on the doing of the thing*, as that's a fine accomplishment all by itself.

* Historical reference hint - see if you can find it... Tom, no fair helping!

Sage Donnelly kayaked it at +- nine years old. Neither solo or self supported, but likely the youngest kayak descent regardless of gender.

You could very well be the youngest incredible accomplishment even if not a record.

Sounds awesome, good work. How do you handle the groover situation on a trip that long? What kind of boat do you use? I would love to self support something like that but all that food (both before and after) seems like too much to take on a regular creekboat.
