Anyone know about wood paddle repair?

So I have an old Woody Custom paddle that has seen better days. The ends of the blade delaminated as they so often do, and despite efforts to save them, enough water has been inside the blade that about a 1/4 of the blades toward the tips has decayed such that it is very flexible. Also the protective coating around the blades is shot and is developing cracks and punctures. The shaft and remainder of the blades are still in great condition though.

I'm thinking the wood at the tips of the blade is probably totally shot at this point and a repair would require bonding something new to it and re-coating the blades with some new protective layer.

I'm wondering if: 1) it's even possible to repair the paddle back to a state where it could handle creeking and 2) if anyone knows where I might take it to get such a repair done. I'm having trouble seeing such a nice paddle sit in my garage collecting dust.

Give Mr. Jim Snyder a call. He can fix it, even if he didn't build it. And his repair prices are very reasonable.

KSC -

That professional repair by the legend is definitely the way to go.

- but if you just wanted to cook somethin up in your garage. I think you could patch it yourself with some fiberglass cloth sheeting and fiberglass or epoxy.

I laid a sheet on my beat up Silvercreek last winter and it has held up pretty good this season. Yah - its a little messy.

Hmm, according to his website he's only willing to do repairs on his own or Backlund paddles, but he does give another couple names to pursue.

Cliff, I think this repair may be beyond my neophyte skills. The wood is damaged so I think it needs more than just some fiberglass and epoxy.

What the hell is going on with the Buzz? Wooden sticks, squirt gatherings, references to the Gawdfather... Can't we just talk trash about access issues?

I may just have to show up at Rincon to see how Rocky Mountain Boyze roam in the realm.

Oh yeah, and another vote for having Jim make it better than new.

Phil, get your ass out here. I've been trying to get your son to the RR for awhile now, but now dice. Maybe if Pops comes out...

On another note, I'm going to try to hit up Blue Hill sometime between 8/14 and 9/8. My vaca. Can't wait.

Sam! I've been in BV for 4+ months. Boated more this year than the last 4 combined. There's been talk of D and the family making it to this rendezvous but there's other stuff going on at the same time. Hopefully... I'd love to see him in the squirt again. Come and paddle the Numbers with me/us. I should be home when yer in Maine, lets paddle here and there.
