Anybody ever run Elk Creek (Animas trib)?

Has anyone ever paddled this one?

Joins the Upper A about 5 miles below Silverton.

Gordon,

I Doubt it, seems pretty manky. John Brennan would know (keel).

Elk Creek

Actually the creek isn't too manky at all. The boulder gardens are quality, but only class III-IV at most.

We ran the last mile to 1 1/2 miles this season. There are some wood portages right now, but not bad. There is a true gorge right at the end.

Some scrambling for eddies above the wood, but otherwise fun and fast water.

I prefer Canyon Ck - or Needle - but I was just curious if anyone had ever dropped into Elk before or if they'd gone farther up.

Love the San Juans,
GD
