Another Damn Kayaker

Tomorrow, I'm taking my 12 year old nephew out for his first time in a ww boat. He's paddled a couple easy class 2's in a ducky, but this'll be his first time in a hard boat. I'm stoked for him and will hardly sleep tonight.
Get r dun, Gavin!

Keep the new guy warm!

I've got young uns 12 and 15, we started boating last fall and I learned they have no freakin tolerance for cold! Pogies and a nice warm top and pants are really nice if you can. I froze my girls because I was slow on the uptake and it hurt their first impressions. I'm here on the planet just to show you all what NOT to do... Have the best day ever with the nephew!

Hey thanx Mankypin. Luckily he's got pretty good tolerance for the cold. Here's him in Feb. of last year on a four day trip on the Buffalo River in TN (wearing shorts). He swam the next day in those shorts.

Kids

Started taking my 14-year old son this Summer. The key has been slow progression. I want him to be a confident boater, confident in his roll and brace. We did the Clackamas yesterday, and had a blast.

Nice. We did the McKenzie today. He did much better than my first time out. A little more than half way through he started getting cold and had a hard time relaxing. No flips, punched a hole or two. Even threw a couple braces. He'll be better than me by next winter. You said it Ednaout. I started at 36. So much wasted time.
