And if ya like Big Thompson Canyon by Loveland...

Our releases to that stretch of river are going up, too. Not such good news for flyfishers, but probably better news for kayakers:

All,
I heard no new information today regarding the state of flow in the Big Thompson River through the canyon. That leaves me to conclude the schedule set yesterday for increasing releases from Olympus Dam up in Estes Park to the river will continue as planned.

That plan was 225 cfs down the canyon from the dam all day today. And, late tonight, around midnight, we'll bump up releases from Oly Dam again by about 100 cfs.

For Friday, anticipate approximately 325 cfs through the Big T canyon.

We are moving water to meet the increasing demands on the Colorado-Big Thompson Project. This heat so early in the season is creating an early rise in demand, as you can imagine.

I'll update you all tomorrow with any changes. I do not know what to expect for the weekend yet, but will share that as soon as I learn.

Please call or e-mail if you have questions or concerns.
Best,
Kara

Big T

Thanks again Kara, this info is invaluable for the rare release. Anyone want to boat the T early Friday(7 mile stretch from dam to mouth)?

Thanks Kara,

This is a great section of river and I try to hit it every time you guys release some water for us. There is at least a 10 mile stretch of good class iv & iv+ from a few miles above Drake(below the class v stretch) all the way thru to what is listed in CRC2. The class V part is pretty chunky too.

Unfortunately - I gotta work tomorrow, but if it is still running on Saturday I will be heading up there.

500 is super sweet but 350 will be good too. Bring the 2 boat combo - creek above/play below.

This is great news.

Thank you for the heads up, Kara! It is great to be able to plan according to reliable information on releases.

So....anyone up for an evening run on the class V stretch tonight? I should make it up there by 6:30 or so.
