A Weekend Without Bailey-Fest

It was an announcement that left me feeling down. My favorite whitewater festival of the season was cancelled due to too much water... At first we denied it, then we felt anger, then we decided to try some bargaining, eventually we became depressed, and finally we reached acceptance.

Denial: Ian's post must have been an August fools prank right? RIGHT!?

Anger: Denver Water is anti-kayaking. Those pompous ass-holes are screwing over the paddling community on purpose, they have no souls!

Bargaining: I've got five bucks, can I buy some water!? What if we coordinate a mass toilet flushing where all of Denver pulls their lavatory handles at the same time, would Bailey run then?

Depression: I found myself in my front yard sitting in my kayak with the sprinkler blasting me in the face. I had some friends throw some small trash cans at me, but it just wasn't the same. Running trash can and having trash cans thrown at you is just too different, I was depressed.

Acceptance: It was time to face the facts. I wasn't going to be paddling, partying, and participating in complete non-sense at the best white-water festival in Colorado. It was time to load up the car and paddle something else.

A quick thanks to Ian for his dedication to Bailey-Fest. This year was a reminder to how spectacular this festival has become and how much it can be missed.

Nice Spencer. A weekend on the big south and gore is a pretty good consolation prize. Let me know when you do the trash can thing again... its that time of year.

My process was a bit slower, but the realization that next year is going to be epic kicked me to acceptance. Ian - you're on for an EPIC Bailey Fest 2015! Thanks again for all you do, no doubt an amazing festival!
