I'm posting here to let the paddling world know of 2 upcoming events in the Denver/front range area. Both events will help to kick off the paddling season and bring important funding/awareness to GOALS
(Get Outside And Learn Something) - a local nonprofit whose mission is to INSPIRE EXPLORATION IN YOUTH THROUGH MULTI-DAY WILDERNESS RIVER PROGRAMS.
Thursday, June 9th
GOALS will be hosting a movie premiere of WILD WATER
at the Oriental Theater in Denver. Following the movie, a great bluegrass band out of Durango called WAITING ON TRIAL
will play. Doors open at 6, and food will be available from Rocky Mountain Chili Bowl
In addition to the movie and music, attendees will have an opportunity to enter a drawing for a kayak and bicycle give-away (details to follow), and can pre-register for the 1st annual CREEK AT THE PEAK
downriver kayak and raft race on Clear Creek scheduled for the following night.
for the "official website" through which you can purchase tix (just $12 in advance), follow the event for updates on Facebook, etc.
Friday, June 10th
The 1st annual CREEK AT THE PEAK
downriver race on Clear Creek - sponsored by Tommyknocker Brewery to benefit GOALS.
The race will feature three separate classes - womens' kayak, mens' kayak, and raft. For just $25 per kayak or $150 per race team (max 6 participants), contestants will receive an event t-shirt, swag bag, and a coupon for a free beer at the post-party, hosted by Tommyknocker. Cash prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each class.
The post-party will feature live music by WAITING ON TRIAL, a special food menu, and the drawing in which someone will walk away with a new bicycle and kayak. Click HERE
for the official event website and to register, etc.
I hope you'll consider attending one, or both of these great events. They're intended to kick off a great paddling season in Colorado - one that all snowpack forecasts seem to be smiling upon! Furthermore, thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, all revenue generated through these events will benefit GOALS, showing children the power of multi-day wilderness river tips and creating the next generation of local river stewards.
**Please note: The event organizers chose the dates of this event carefully, aiming for high flows and trying to avoid competition with other established events. Please help all local event organizers to make this weekend an incredible celebration of boating in Colorado by attending Thursday night's movie premiere/live music and/or Friday night's race, and then finishing your weekend by competing in or being a spectator at the wide array of whitewater events offered on Saturday and Sunday at the Lyons Outdoor Games!
