Derk, at first I thought you were high. There is no way that Google Maps would actually include that until I tried it myself. Apparently someone in Silicon Valley has a sense of humor. Hilarious....

Unbelievable. Google maps will give you this, but not driving directions to San Carlos, Mexico. Maybe if there was an ocean in between... or they spoke English as a first language...

Crazy, I tried the exact same thing from Denver to Hobart Tasmania last week b/c I am applying for a job down there. I was amused by the kayaking legs as well. Did you notice how long it expected? something like 57 days. Makes me wonder what their calculations for the average kayak speed across the pacific are.

I also wondered: why Seattle and not San Fran or San Diego? Those guys at google....

The reason they have you leaving from Seattle is because that would be the shortest distance. The maps they give you are not proportional. Invision the world as a globe. If you stretched a string from Boulder to Japan the shortest possible route would actually take you fairly close to Alaska (this is the route that a plane would take). It is hard to represent this on a map that is flat.

Yes Derk, Native Americans (not Indians) also understand geographical concepts.

Try searching from new york to london.. used to be that you had to SWIM across the Atlantic. At least they found that kayaking was far more efficient and preferred! lol

Hmm, I tried that and it said it was outside of their coverage area . I like the fact that you can now get directions by walking as well as driving.

From what I can gather, they inject these from time to time. If you search for other oddities you'll find where other people posted a funny maps search result! I want to see the post where someone looking for directions from Texas to Colorado get rerouted to California. hahahaa
