After a couple of months working on the Futaleufu, argentinian kayaker Diego Valsecchi felt the need to check out the rio Baker. They planned this for a while, but his friends bailed on him the last day. He decided to go anyways. He hitchhiked all the way south carrying his playboat and met a chilean on the way, Jose (not a kayaker). He spent a day or two scouting the canyons, then put a leash to the paddle attaching it to his wrist...and rided the Baker...
this is Jose's filming and editing of that day...

Rio Baker, mano a mano...

While Jose was running , following Diego, he saw a group of workers that were ready to dynamite a section on the side of the river. If that would happen, huge rocks would fall into the river while Diego passed below. He stopped them right before. Those were the first contruccion steps of the company Endesa for building the Dam.
The Baker will be dead soon.
Probably will wake up again when humans are gone and erosion rotten the dam...

(After that day, Jose decided that he wanted a kayak...
last time I saw him he had a reasonable roll and was playing in a wave in Mendoza...)
