Ola Tres-Bon. Hope I'm not going overboard here, but I do think WW will be in the teens in July and I don't think you should bring children. I'm one of the volunteer rangers down there and have been for 14 years. I see you've been paddling since 87 so I presume that means some big water experience, but Ruby Horsethief does not prepare anyone for WW in the teens. The waves are powerful, pushy, strong and the hyrdraulics are somewhat relentless. Getting eddied out is nearly impossible. Swims tend to be LONG and if there is a swim, it usually means a flip. Most people flip at Funnel Falls, which has big cresting laterals that have to be "t'd up" for, and frequently swim through Skull and beyond before recovering. There are other big waves that can flip a boat too. The canyon is narrow so when the volume is there, so are the hydraulics. You should run WW without at low flows first - - 4K to 6K - - and see for yourself before bringing children down there. OK, nuf said.
