Here's what Dave Frank wrote to us on the Moderator Forum:

he ws paddling with one other guy (who wants to stay quiet for now). other guy eddied out above bouncing betty. COUNT did not. He know it well, but got hammered there two days prior. He entered the sieved out slot pointing the wrong way, flipped and pinned upside down. When the guy didn't see him float out below, he got out and hurried down to see what happened. he saw the pinned boat, but no swimmer. He waded out to the boat and shook it free with brute force. Derk was still in the boat. He couldn't hold on and it flushed into the next pool. He had to get back in his boat and ferry to the other side to pull him out again. Rescue breathing and cpr ensued, but probably way too late.

I spoke with this guy for 15 minutes yesterday. He is not doing too well, as one could only imagine.
