CG, You ahve helped me with some Equipment and river advice in the past so I know of you passion and expertise. I have a April3 Lodore Launch and am looking to add a few more people for variety. (currently there are only 3 of us). My friend Alan in Boise (do you know him...and acupuncturist?) suggested your name. Do you have any interest?

Hey! I'm Kathy Heckel the one looking for a trip to the Middle or Main of the Salmon in July. Yes, we've done the Salmon many times, but it's our favorite; we have yet to do the Middle, though. My kids are 16 (girl) and 13 (boy). We've been running rivers in the West since the youngest was old enough to crawl. We have a 16 ft. riken with all the gear. The kids and I run IK's and the husband is the hear hauler. How soon do we need to know? We have the month of July penciled in for a trip. We just need a few days to a week to get packed and go shopping.

It's so nice to see that you are from Sandy. We are from Provo and my brother who rafts often with us is from Sandy. It's been so hard to get in with a network of boaters from the area for various reasons. Please let us know if you hear of anything. And, how do I go about getting in with WMC?
    Thanks,
    Kathy

    Hello cataraftgirl,
I have a question for you, if you have a minute. I read one of your posts and you said that the MFS was class III to III+ in July and August. Can you tell me if that is like Deso in July and August? We went to Deso in August last year and dodging the rocks was harder that running the rapids. There was maybe 5 solid III's at that level with big rocks pocking out, the rest were fairly easy if you stayed away from the pillow rocks.

    Thank you for your time.

I saw this post and I am now heading to Main Salmon for a 6/18 launch. will be my first trip and I am leader (probably 6-10 guys). Any campsite info is much appreciated!!!
    Thanks,
    Chris
You can only layover in non-reserve camps. 6 days/5 nights from Corn Creek to Carey Creek would be a bit tight for a layover. It would require some higher mileage days. We always do either an 8 day/7night trip with a group of 10 or less (two layovers), or 7 days/6 nights with a group over 10 (one layover).
I'll PM you more camp and river info. The main Salmon is my favorite trip, and I've done it about 15 times in the last ten years.

Hey Cataraftgirl! I saw your post on the small fishing raft thread about your hyside for sale. What are you looking to get for the whol;e package? I'm in Denver but make my way to Utah a few times and would be able to come pick it up.
    Thanks.

    Hi Cataraftgirl,

I appreciate that measured and thoughtful post. And thanks so much for the compassion your closing comments convey.

You're the first person who has really picked up on the fact Tom derived nothing unique from his artificial construct. His lessons learned are long-time common sense items, so his assertion that this effort of his will provide some imporant new information for the boating community is hollow.

Tom's reconstruction itself is in the ball park, but is way too simplistic, and subtly conveys a number of his mistaken assumptions. As someone who was there, I can tell you that the causes for this accident were far more nuanced and complicated than anything Tom can come up with through his narrow information channels. And sadly, that's probably the case with many such tragic episodes.

I'm glad the Rescue Rung info was helpful. It's a great product, and for roughly the price of a high end oar, it's well worth it.

    Have a good one.

    Cataraftgirl,

Sorry to hear that your femur fracture is healing slowly.

My experience with mine was the same. IE took a long time. But I had so many broken bones to mend that I took a lot of vitamin D and drank milk multiple times a day. Still took many times normal to mend. I had the bar down the middle of my femur and maybe that helped. But, I ended up with a pretty good "weld of bone" around all the breakage. Mine was smashed not a clean break. Any way, from my experience my advice is to just give the break time and it will mend.

Hey there - I know from reading your post that you have loads of experience on the Main. We are launching on Aug. 7th with an 18 person trip. We have 6 kids with us between ages 4-9. From everything we've read, we should be good to go. Especially with the water dropping at Whitebird like it has been for the past few weeks.

I'm writing to see if you'd be willing to get on the phone with me so I can pick your brain on rapids, campsites, scouts, etc.

I have run the Main once but it was May of '06 and the gauge at WB was at 92K so I have no idea what to expect at really low water, and it seems like you've run it at all levels.

My main concern is the new Black Canyon Rapid, which looks like a must run for everyone. Is it event walkable on the river left side?

Our crew's motto is "you can't drown on the bank".

If you're willing to chat, let me know via PM here or email Ben@LNT.org.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Cheers,

    Ben

    Hi Cat,

You mentioned a couple of your boating buds had JPW Cut Throat little cat boats.

After seeing one on our recent Smith River MT float group, I plan to order one next December. I know I want the JPW internal the tube deals that make each tube into two air chambers. But, would like to know if the folks who have used the Cut Throats think the double bottoms or the chafe strip on top of the tubes for the frame is worth the money. I kind of feel both are over kill but would appreciate feedback. No hurry on this. Thanks for the help. Okieboater

    CataraftGirl:
Always interested in reading your post as I have a boat very similar to yours; 14 1/2 ft (green Sotar) X 23" tubes with a NRS 66" X 100" frame.
I read recently that you had Partner Steel build you a custom drybox for your cat. I am considering having them build one for me too. What size was the box they made for you? My current drybox is 16" high and has foam on the top that I use for a rowers seat. It would sometimes be nice to have a rowers chair, but not sure I want to sacrifice the drybox space and have a shorter box made.
    Your valued opinion please.
    Thanks,
    Hersire

    CataraftGirl,
I saw in one of your posts that you own a Canyon Cooler. What is your feedback on the quality of these?

    Thank You,
