Free spots to SUP

Hey all,

I'm new to the this site and SUPing. I am looking for a chill places to float around and practice near Denver/Lakewood or the foothills for free.

I've been checking out the parks and google maps, but I find it a little ridiculous to charge so much to float around in the water with no motor or need for a landing. I even looked into buying a year pass to save money, but every park needs a different pass. I wish they would sell passes by location, not city, county, state and national while mixing them all together within a couple miles.
I've looked at smaller lakes that aren't a part of parks but county rules and regulations say no floating unless a sign specifically says you can.

I've heard there are state parks that only charge to park a vehicle and you can walk into them if you know where to park.

Any pointers?

Thanks for your help!

Flatter sections of the south Platte may be a good free option

I have not done the Confluence to Pumphouse run in a few weeks but I seem to remember a rapid or two in there. But then maybe my memory is not what it used to be.

Are you looking for flatwater or moving water? If flatwater, waneka lake park is a decent free option, particularly in the north surburbs. If you're looking to surf, check out this site for a listing of options.
