used to be a good deal a couple weeks ago:
https://www.pdx.edu/surplus/node/1811

but now, pair it with a $600 trailer and its yellow gold:
Aire Super puma w/ trailer

yes, they are the same boat

No joke, the seller told me he is between jobs right now and he bought the boat as an investment so he could make money to buy a better frame for his bigger round boat so he could get his family (2 kids) on the water, as they have no extra money for absolutely anything else.

Interesting, I was just out looking at this boat this weekend! Crazy... guy says he has patched it, and it was holding air while I was there. Clearly used well, and has discoloration.

What would you consider is a fair value for this boat sans trailer? I know that new they are $3800 with three thwarts.

What difference does it make to compare to a new boat. Its like comparing the cost of a new subaru outback to one that is 11 years old. They aren't the same.

The question to me is, what did the boat cost when it was new then. Well I paid $2650 for a brand new super duper puma (factory second from aire with full 10 year warranty) in 2007 with 2 thwarts. This boat is older than that, was a college outdoor program boat, has no warranty, unknown quality of patch, the guy paid $750 for it in April 2016 from the PSU surplus. I would be at $1500 if it looks really good in person with a pro-patch job on the aire cell. If it looks well used and rode hard, I would be considerably less.

The trailer looks to be worth $500 or less.

Look at other good deals out there, just this week there was a 14' ocelot in great shape with frame, straps cooler, all you need for $2000 near Eugene (see the Buzz classifieds). Compare that to this old college boat with no accessories and POS trailer for $2900.

Thanks shappattach, I just PM'ed you about this too. Not meaning to overload with questions.

I am new to the sport and trying to purchase my first boat, the price of a new one + gear is a little steep for me and I am hoping to learn from some of you more experienced guys. In my estimation it looks well used, but probably has some years of life left if the patch job holds up (who knows about that?).

Thanks again, I appreciate your feedback!

I only mentioned the new price because in my inexperience I am using it is a slight gauge for the discount I am getting buying used. But I totally agree its not the same animal at all! And you make a good point about depreciation and the interaction with inflation.

New whenever it was purchased it was probably not much more expensive than he is asking for!
