To me, how lightweight you want the frame depends = how flimsy you want the frame.
1" pipe needs more cross bracing which you can see from the Whitewater Machine Works photo.
Looks like more places to get a foot stuck.
I just prefer strength over weight. A few extra pounds doesn't bug me much but I prefer a 3 day float fishing trip to a 3 day class V trip.
Can't imagine this NW manufactured frame is 35lbs.
Again, too much welding for my liking. Love the Orange.
I bought and orange dry box from Canyon this winter and they do great work.
Good luck finding a frame, it is a fun process.
As a side note, I have a dual rail, diamond plated 4-bay DRE frame
