Toe nails?

Heard a fellow at a local rafting shop going off about passengers with sandals, or other open-toed shoes, because toe-nails can do damage to the rubber and valves of a boat.

Does anyone else have thoughts on this? Seems a bit extreme?

Wow, sounds like they need a podiatrist on board!

I have seen very ugly toe nail injuries from open toe sandals on the river and always keep my own piggies covered with Keen type sandals or river shoes but that is for my own safety not that of the boat.

just when you think you've heard the craziest sh$t possible....fisherman worry about spiked wading boots but toenails! there's no way unless you are taking a tiger or a bear for a cruise.

At first I thought this was gonna be about toenail painting on western river trips. Do y'all do that out there? It's a tradition here but I have no idea how it got started.

Those would be some scary toe nails. The dog has badger claws and ive never seen a scratch from her tearing around the tubes trying to get at the fish I'm landing. Not that Ive seen everything but ive never had a boat in the shop with a customer claiming toenail rip.

I have torn the hell out of my toenails many times but still havent learned my lesson. Peeled one back the other day flipping a boat over in the shop. Rubbing strake snagged me. Some day i'll buy some shoes.

By the waterside I will lay my head.
Listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul.

If your raft can't take toe nails then I would be very worried about going over rocks. My family and I always have open toe shoes as does my dog and none have ever made a scratch in the rubber. Sounds like a loon.

Had a buddy's Vanguard rip my big toenail off once while rolling it. Don't think there was even a scratch on the boat.
