Just my opinion
Eat flesh? I think they both have pro's and cons, but flesh eating is not one I've found to be a problem. I like handrail fittings near the end of side bars and loro's in the middle. Ahything I don't want spinning gets a loprow (anchor, foot and seat bars, etc).
I'd say that's a problem with drilling and pinning. If it's just a normal, straight cross bar (no torque like on a foot bar) why even pin it? I just take a drill bit that just fits inside the threads in the set screw hole and counter sink a dimple into the tubing (I'm not drilling all the way thru, just about half way). Add a little loctite and voila. It's a fairly new process for me, but so far no issues what so ever.
