They are balanced, and one piece. There are no joints in the oar, so the feeling is more direct. The overall weight isn't much different, the just moved as much mass away from the water as possible and added a wooden counterbalance to the other end, so it takes less effort to row. They just replied to a Facebook post saying they are producing square tops again, but they are handling a backlog of orders. Sounds legit, very glad they are able to produce again!
