Thanks for the honesty. I'd like to try some Orange Screws for the wing (like you stated also) but I'll stick with 1/4" sand stake for now.

Cheers and best of luck!

Disclaimer- I am a friend of Kirby's (Orange Screw's owner) but have an honest first had testimonial to these anchors.

I was asked to take a hand full of these anchors on a Grand Ronde trip this past spring to take some product photos while in use. The first couple days I set up a few staged shots but on our third day we rowed into a torrential wind and rain storm. When we made came the first thing I set up was my large River Wing. I set it up in a site that had two large downed trees lying parallel to each other with enough space to set the wing up between. I was able to utilize the logs for anchors along the sides. This just left the leading edge that was facing head into the wind to secure. The forest floor was a compacted base of pine needles and organic matter. The wind was blasting and I had little confidence that anything but another old growth log could hold that billowing wing down. With a little skepticism I turned in one of the large Orange Screws. It amazingly held and I honestly thought something was going to break or tear in that wind. I will make the large screws part of my wing kit from now on.
I have used them in other applications but nothing that put them to the test like that one afternoon on the Grand Ronde.
