Finally got my new raft on the water. Four day float on the Southfork Snake. Sotar 14SL. Two dry boxes (one 16 wide, one 14 wide), and a Canyon Sailor 105 cooler.

Never done upgrading but 3 years later my raft suits my needs well.
whitewater wife, fly fishing husband. Frame works for both.
Removed the front and rear fishing frame parts for a Deso trip next week.
Next year Broncos!

Here is my new Zephyr. I used the Whitewater Machineworks fittings and built my decks out of 1/2" oak veneer plywood. The forward passenger deck is 3/4".

Here is a closeup of the fixture layout before the deck board is attached

....And one of the way the decks attach directly to the fixtures. Drilling these was somewhat challenging- I made a template out of clear plastic. I used a hole punch to mark the three points where I needed to drill. After punching the plastic, I had a slot for the hole punch to lie in after I lined it up atop the boards. I taped it in place and set the three holes with a tap from a hammer. Drilled out slightly oversized, they worked out pretty well. Just a little fiddling. The holes on the fixtures accommodate a 5/16" 18 pitch machine screw- I found perfect matches (3/4" long) at Fastenal.... they even use the same allen key as the speedrail fittings on my cat frame.

Makes for a clean look when it's all buttoned up. No straps- and the attachment points for the frame to raft connection are elevated enough to get your straps thru. I'm pretty pleased with the look- and I like the fact that the fittings support the deck boards so well that you can use thinner/lighter decks.

Upgraded my cat this year. Bought two new RMR 16'tubes and reworked the frame to be more modular. Front and rear platforms come off with two fittings. Fishing platform and thigh braces are quickly removable also. Used truckbed liner on marine ply for the side platforms

Had it loaded down and the trailer pulled great. Haven't checked on actual tongue weight, but your right it is heavy. My girlfriends v6 struggled but the new silverado with the 6.2L and 460 ft lbs of torque shouldn't notice it! (Making engine sounds)
