The stern section will have Barney bag. I ill be installing a 8' bimini top for the family multiday trip coming up. The black pole in the back is my $10 gopro mount using toilet seat flange. I also built a stow away ladder system that will come out on flat water. The boat will be carrying 1 adult and 3-4 little passengers.

The second photo shows the day frame configuration. I had AAA build two side rails that would convert the setup for day runs with 1-2 thwarts for paddlers. Keeping the width the same, I didn't have to change oar geometry.

I belong to minimalist camp when it comes to what goes on the boat. Trying to keep it clean and organized. No ammo cans or buckets strapped to the frame. Want to ride with style. Just finished carpeting an aluminum trailer with marine carpet. The whole set up fits nicely on a 8'8" long bed.
Looks great. Isn't messing with the boat all winter in the garage fun. I did the same thing. Post some pics when you do your first overnighter and let us know how it goes. Plus we'll expect some video from the GoPro mounting system and a review on how that works out.

Finally got my big 4-bay frame completed and used it for my new cat tubes.

I had an old 16' Maravia that I sold at the start of last season. Gave away the 3-bay double rail frame I had built for it. I don't like 3-bay frames with passengers. If they sit on the front cooler, the oars can whack them in the head. If they sit on a thwart in front of the cooler, the front of the frame hits them in the back.

Bought an Aire 156D last season, and struggled with new 4-bay frame dimensions, so I mothballed the project and built a small 2-bay and a stern frame to get me through last season.

After reading numerous 'buzz posts and sitting on the floor a lot, I came up with my perfect (for me) frame.
  • 72" wide x 86" long
  • Inner rails are 9" in from the outers; inners are 54" apart so I could use an NRS crossbar if I wanted to.
  • Bays are 18"-18"-24" rower-18". Reversible to 18"-24"-18"-18" if I want to put my weight forward.
  • Frame breaks down if I ever need to fly/pack it, and for winter storage.
  • Oar towers have oarlock sleeves at 3" forward and back of center. Not micro adjustable, but fairly wide range. This lets me run the frame regular, reverse, or use a seat clamped to one bar, or sit on a cooler or drybox.
Talked to salmonjammer a lot about POR15. He used it to good success on his frame and ammo cans. I tried the black. Wonderful stuff--glossy, and harder than powder coating. But...I found that after 3 weeks in the sun that it got chalky.

Built my 4-bay frame and ordered some HardNose paint from POR. Similar application to the POR, but it's got UV inhibitors and is intended as a top coat, not a primer.

Then found that one pint wasn't enough to do all 3 frames...the light yellow barely covered the black. You're supposed to do the 2nd coat from 30min to 2 days after the first. Light yellow was only available from the manufacturer in New York.

Mothballed the coating project in July and ordered more paint. I also ordered some GlistenPC clear coat and some gold pearl powder.

Sanded and re-coated. Clearcoated with the gold pearl. I am very happy with how it turned out.

I have about $100 in tubing for all 3 frames, $200 in paint, and about $40 in hardware. It didn't hurt to have a MIG welder or an electrician buddy with a conduit bender.
