When I was laying it out I started with the frame 7 feet wide, this was the max width while staying on the chafe strip on top of the tubes. Just looking at it, it seemed really big so I cut it down to 6'6" which actually places the frame at the center of the tubes. The boat is 8'6" wide with 24" tubes so 6'6" is perfect. Like I said in the previous post, maybe I should have stayed with the 7' width but this frame is heavy for one person to move around.

As for leverage, there's two ways to look at it. If the stands were out 6" more on each side you have more oar in the boat which gives you more power. These are counter balanced oars so they also feel lighter when moving many miles. But are you really gaining anything? You may be getting more power in your stroke but you're also losing stroke length and arms can only move so fast. I'd say this is a wash. The other thought is, what does 6" matter in a 2000 lb boat with 15,000 cfs pushing you around?

Nice setup. I would put a perimeter rope around it for people to grab onto when they get back in the boat.

Yes they do.

Great info. I will upgrade. Thanks for the advice. That would have sucked to learn the hard way.

It concerns me how much attention you pay to the contents of everyone's garage.
